The breed originally appeared in 19th century England. At this time, one of the main entertainment events was the bloody baiting of bulls by dogs. The task was to bring out a strong, powerful, and at the same time mobile dog, which would show itself from its best side during the show. English breeders tried to cross a strong, massive bulldog and an agile terrier. As a result, the bull and terrier breed appeared.
At first glance, the Coton de Tulear is very similar to a lapdog, it can even be confused with the Havana Bichon or Maltese. They are just as small, but at the same time strong. The head is triangular in shape, the nose is black, the ears are small, set high, drooping, sometimes lost in the total mass of long drooping hair. The eyes are rather large, dark, round, with a cheerful and friendly expression.
