If there’s one thing that can match the majesty of the lion, it’s his appetite. These big cats are known to devour up to 15% of their body weight in a single meal, making them one of the most impressive eaters in the animal kingdom. Lions are opportunistic hunters, which means they’ll take on pretty much anything that comes their way. From antelopes to zebras, these big cats are always on the lookout for their next meal. But when the going gets tough, and food is scarce, lions aren’t afraid to go for the big guns. In fact, they’ll happily take down an elephant if they get the chance!
Of course, taking down an elephant is no easy feat. These massive mammals can weigh up to 13,000 pounds, and have skin that’s several inches thick. But lions are nothing if not persistent, and they’ll use every trick in the book to get their meal. From Trunks to Trunks: How Lions Feast Like Elephants!

Lions will often work together to drag the elephant’s carcass to a shady spot, where they can feast in relative peace. And feast they do! A single elephant can provide enough food for an entire pride of lions for up to a week.
But perhaps the most interesting part of the lion’s feast is the way they eat. Unlike other predators, lions will eat pretty much everything on an animal, including the bones. They’ll use their powerful jaws to crunch through the bones, extracting as much nutrition as possible.
