Pacific salmon, also known as Oncorhynchus, are a vital source of food, income, and recreational activities for many coastal communities. Unfortunately, the populations of these fish species have been declining at an alarming rate. The endangerment of Pacific salmon is a complex issue that involves multiple factors, including habitat destruction, pollution, overfishing, climate change, invasive species, hydroelectric dams, logging, deforestation, and disease. Habitat Destruction: The Leading Cause of Salmon Population Decline

Habitat destruction, including the degradation of spawning and rearing habitats, is one of the primary causes of Pacific salmon population decline. The conversion of natural habitats to agricultural, urban, or industrial use has led to the loss of critical habitats and food sources for salmon. Moreover, logging and deforestation activities have increased sedimentation in streams and rivers, thereby altering the physical and chemical properties of water bodies. This has resulted in the destruction of spawning and rearing habitats, decreased water quality, and increased water temperature, all of which negatively affect salmon populations.
