Compact shorties are a serious working breed. It was bred in the 17th century in Germany exclusively for official purposes – for hunting burrowing animals. The dachshund’s structure is ideal for pulling prey out of narrow underground passages.
The owners praise the dachshunds for their sharp mind and good contact with people. At the same time, in the scale of dog learning ability, the breed occupies a not very honorable 49th place, yielding even to the boxer, although overtaking the Staffordshire Terrier. Perhaps the dachshunds think that teaching them is only spoiling.
