Rottweilers nearly died out as a breed at the turn of the century, when small dogs that were easier to keep took over most of their functions. Fortunately, dedicated breeders have literally revived the breed, which is now one of the most popular in the United States. In 1985, an amusing series of beautifully illustrated children’s books “The Good Dog Carl” was published about the adventures of a Rottweiler and a little girl from his family.
