The Maremma Sheepdog is a breed of Italian shepherd dogs. Hence the name: Maremma is a geographical area of Italy, and Abruzzo is a region where these animals are believed to have gained particular popularity. The history of the Maremma began about two thousand years ago. Its ancestors are Asian wolfhounds, who came to Europe together with nomadic peoples.
