Introduction: What is a guinea pig?
Guinea pigs, scientifically known as Cavia porcellus, are small, domesticated rodents that are native to South America. They are known for their cute and cuddly appearance, and have long been popular as pets due to their social nature and ease of care. Guinea pigs come in a variety of breeds and colors, with short, smooth hair or long, curly hair.
The Guinness World Records for the biggest guinea pig
The Guinness World Records has a category for the biggest guinea pig, and there have been several record holders over the years. The current record was set in 2018 by a guinea pig named "Biggie" from Durham, England, who weighed in at a whopping 1.5 kilograms (3.3 pounds). This is more than twice the weight of an average guinea pig, which typically weighs around 700 grams (1.5 pounds). Biggie’s owner, a veterinary nurse named Hannah Kembrey, was thrilled to learn that her beloved pet had broken the record.
