Towards the end of the 18th century, there were still a large number of different herding and cattle dogs in Belgium. A group of cynologists wanted to bring order to the diversity and set about breeding a perfect Belgian Shepherd Dog. The “Belgian Shepherd Dog Club” was founded in Brussels between 1891 and the breed was selected and bred for several years. The first and very detailed standard was created as early as 1892. The first Belgian Shepherds were registered in the Société Royale St. Hubert (L.O.S.H) studbook in 1901. It was not until 1910 that the type and character of the animals were finally determined. Today there are a total of four variants of the Belgian Shepherd Dog, which differ visually and are similar in character and behavior. A variation of this is the Tervueren.
General Appearance
A harmoniously built dog of medium proportions that combines elegance and strength. He has a square body, is of medium height, the musculature is strong. The fur is long and red or fawn.
Behavior and temperament
This Belgian is also characterized by his quick reflexes, his spontaneity, and sensitivity. It is an ideal companion and family dog for people who live in a rural area and can also give them a run in the garden in addition to breed-appropriate activities. Belgians are friendly, lively, and spirited. They are also alert and have an innate distrust of strangers.
Need for employment and physical activity

Upbringing
