Cooking Dog Food Yourself

Would you like a change in the bowl? You can also easily prepare delicious snacks and healthy meals for your dog yourself. Here are the editors’ three favorite recipes.

Spoiling your dog with home-baked dog biscuits or a cooked meal from time to time is not that difficult. Our editorial dogs put some of the recipes to the test and found these three particularly delicious. However, you should note that the recipe suggestions are only an occasional treat for your dog. When fed daily, the dishes do not cover their individual nutritional needs. If you want to feed your dog permanently with home-cooked food, you should first deal intensively with the topic of dog nutrition.

Snacks

Sweet Potato Bites

Ingredients:

  • 120 grams of wheat flour
  • 1 large sweet potato
  • 60 ml rapeseed oil
  • 30 ml honey
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 50g grated Gouda

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 180 °C and bake the sweet potato in the oven for approx. 30 minutes.
Peel the cooled sweet potato and cut it into cubes with an edge length of approx. 1.5 cm.
Mix oil and honey in a blender.
Add the beaten egg and diced sweet potato and mix well.
Add the flour and mix well again.
Sprinkle grated Gouda over the mixture.
Spoon the moist mixture (depending on the desired size) onto a well-greased baking sheet and bake at 180 °C for around 20 minutes.
Allow bites to cool thoroughly before feeding.

Sweet potatoes are a real superfood for dogs. They are an excellent source of carbohydrates and fiber and contain zinc, iron, magnesium, and copper. In addition, the antioxidants contained in it have a preventive effect against inflammation and cell damage and the high potassium content strengthens the muscles and the heart.

Apple Banana Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 apple
  • 1 medium-sized banana
  • 200 ml apple juice
  • 50 g dog liver sausage

Directions:

Peel and core the banana and apple. Cut the peeled fruit into small pieces.
Add the apple juice and the dog liver sausage and puree for a few minutes with a hand blender or in a blender.
The recipe makes about two servings for a medium-sized dog.
The smoothie can be stored in the fridge for 2-3 days.

Wholemeal

Power casserole for vegetable fans

Ingredients:

  • 200g cooked wholegrain rice
  • 140g grated cheese
  • 100g finely chopped carrots
  • 100g finely chopped zucchini
  • 70g applesauce
  • 1 egg, beaten until fluffy
  • 1 tablespoon of brewer’s yeast

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 175 degrees.
Put all the ingredients together in a large bowl and stir well.
Then pour the mixture into a casserole and bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
Let cool and serve, keeping leftovers in the fridge.
