Dorgi: Dachshund & Corgi

Dorgi is a wonderful dog, a cross between Dachshund and Corgi. It’s amazing how such a medium-sized animal contains so much love, cheerfulness, sociability, and devotion to man. This designer dog breed is getting more and more popular every year!


The first mestizo Dachshunds and Welsh Corgi appeared in the palace of Elizabeth II in Great Britain, then the puppies were handed out in good hands. But years later, after two dogs died of cancer, Dachshund and Welsh Kogri were crossed deliberately in order to improve the gene pool. Eventually, a designer breed appeared, called Dorgi.

Representatives of the breed have a small long body, relatively large erect ears, and short legs. The coat is short, it can be soft or hard, mainly light brown in color with a white spotted chest. There are also black, black-brown individuals. The height of the dogs is 22-30 cm, and the weight is 6.8-12.7 kg.


The designer breed is friendly and outgoing and needs communication with a person, strongly attached to family members. Animals are interested in everything that the owner is doing, they are happy to spend time with children and other animals. but representatives of the breed are not suitable for people who lead an inactive lifestyle. It is better not to use legumes (lentils, peas) and pearl barley for feeding Dorgi. Remember to include vegetable dishes in your pet’s diet. It is unnecessary to remind you about the constant availability of clean water.

To raise a healthy and active dog, you need to follow several recommendations regarding their nutrition:

  • Dorgis have an excellent appetite and are prone to overeating, so you need to feed them small amounts of food at a specific time. If the dog hasn’t finished eating its portion, remove the bowl until the next meal. Even if your pet wants to continue eating, you should not follow his lead, later this will negatively affect his health: back problems may begin.
  • It is not allowed to mix natural food and dry food for Dorgi nutrition. Natural and drying have different digestion times. This can cause the dog to develop stomach problems.
  • It is advisable to feed the dog with the food that the breeder will recommend to you. This will help to soften the adaptation of the dog in the new home and will not lead to various disorders.
  • All fatty foods should be excluded from the dog’s diet, as they negatively affect the health of Dorgi.
  • Dorgi needs to be fed after walking or exercising. If the dog eats prior to exercise, digestive and stomach problems may occur.


Dorgis is a healthy breed, but, nevertheless, there are a number of diseases to which dogs are predisposed. Sometimes representatives of the breed suffer from partial or complete deafness, eye diseases, obesity, hip dysplasia,
degenerative myelopathy, osteogenesis imperfecta, epilepsy.


Dorgis are curious pets with a mischievous face. They are perfect for families with children and single people. Dogs are accustomed to serving a person and obediently following him, therefore they are quickly trained.
