The Aussiedoodle was created by crossing an Australian Shepherd with a Poodle. The aim of a cross is always to combine the best characteristics of both breeds in one dog breed, which of course does not always succeed.
Expect the Aussiedoodle to have herding instincts. It’s not a big problem, just keep it in mind. The Aussiedoodles have a medium to a high level of activity, so they are not dogs for couch potatoes.
Essence & Character
The Aussiedoodle is a good family dog and will be happy to accompany you in your leisure activities. Long walks and dog sports such as agility suit his disposition. He inherited his ability to guard against the Aussie. Like all dogs, this breed requires consistent training. Visiting a dog school is recommended.
Is the Aussiedoodle Hypoallergenic and Therefore an Allergy-Prone Dog?
Many believe that hypoallergenic means – no triggering of an allergy by the dog -. Sadly, that is not correct.
Size
Depending on the crossing, the Aussiedoodle comes in 3 sizes.
- Australian Shepherd x standard poodle = 50-60 cm height at the withers
- Mini Australian Shepherd x Miniature Poodle = 40-50 cm height at the withers
- Australian Shepherd x Toy Poodle = 30-35 cm height at the withers
Grooming
Regular clipping (every 3-4 months) and brushing out several times a week. That’s pretty much it when it comes to grooming.
