Inca Orchid Dog: Facts and Personality Traits

The dog breed Inca Orchid Dog has many other names. Perro sin Pelo del Peru, Orchid Dog of the Incas, or Peruvian Hairless Dog are some of them. The dog of Peruvian origin has at least as many facets.

Inca Orchid Dog Character, Training and Attitude

Archaeological finds show that dogs amazingly resembling him have existed for over a thousand years. Different theories regarding its origin are traded among experts. According to this, the ancestors are imported from China, among other things, come from the African continent or come to South America with the people from Asia.

Wealthy Incas valued the naked dogs, as evidenced by scenes depicted on ceramics. The four-legged roommates, with their soft and warm skin, serve as bedwarmers for Inca kings; furthermore, they are said to have a healing effect. The dog without fur from Peru is one of the rarest dog breeds in the world. Estimates are currently based on around one thousand copies.

In the FCI standard number 310, light-skinned and dark-skinned breeds are united in all color variations – including spotted representatives.

Look

The color variety of the skin ranges from black to gray to dark brown and light blonde tones. They are available in one color as well as with light spots. In addition, a distinction is made between three sizes-small sizes measuring 25 to 40 centimeters at the shoulder and weighing four to eight kilograms. The medium sizes are between 40 and 51 centimeters, with eight to twelve kilograms.

The large hairless dogs weigh 12 to 25 kilograms and reach a height of 51 to 70 centimeters. What all dogs have in common is the lack of hair. Small tufts of hair are permissible on the head, around the edges of the ears, as well as on the paws and tail. The hairless appearance is attributed to the result of a spontaneously occurring mutation and the Inca Orchid Dog has special genetics.

Hairless dogs always have both hairy and hairless genes in order to survive. Without this feature, their continued existence would not be possible.

Grooming? On a Dog with no Fur?

Basically, the Inca Orchid Dog behaves like humans. Light skin has little to counteract the sun’s rays without protection, dark skin is at least a little less sensitive to light. Neither type protects against cold temperatures. Coat care is therefore limited to applying sunscreen and regularly checking the skin. This breed is simply more susceptible to injuries and inflammation of the organ.

On the other hand, the incomplete dentition that is often associated with the coat-free disposition is less of a concern. The Peruvian hairless dog is relatively similar in physique to a greyhound. A slender body with a straight back supports the high set neck and the low-slung tail. It is often carried tucked in between the hind legs. The slender, sinewy legs fit well into the image of the fast runner. Sporting activities suit him – as a companion dog for cyclists, joggers, or ambitious hikers.

In demanding movement, he defies even cool temperatures and adverse weather.

Inca Orchid Dog Creature

The Inca Orchid Dog is an original dog. Very adaptable and self-confident, he hardly causes any problems even for the novice dog. Alert and yet extremely calm, the Peruvian lives in the house; He does not leave gardens without a fence. A hunting instinct is as good as non-existent with him and the socialization that begins early gives the animal companion the necessary orientation aids.

He learns with great zeal and seeks challenges. Tasks that are too banal or too frequent repetitions quickly bore the four-legged friend. Strictness has no place in upbringing; any common goal can be achieved with friendliness and serenity.

Peruvian Hairless Dogs are willing and willing to accept their role and place within a family. This includes the relationship with the children of the family. The cheerful Inca Orchid Dog is as gentle with them as those who are allowed to experience its smooth, thick, and elastic coat when stroking it. Of course under supervision and with the necessary respect for the animal.

Strangers, on the other hand, are suspiciously eyed by the family dog, and treats do not tempt him either. In his vigilance, he is incorruptible without having to bark.
