Origin of the Dog Breed Waller

Editor’s tip! The book by Mrs. Karin Wimmer-Kieckbusch on the Wäller breed.

This breed got its name from the founder of the breed, Karin Wimmer-Kieckbusch, who lives in the Westerwald and whose inhabitants are called “Wäller” in the dialect. The Wäller is a new breed that results from crossing French and American herding dogs (Briard x Australian Shepherd). The development of this new breed is carried out according to a special breeding program that provides for further cross-breeding with the original breeds.

The Wäller is an elegant dog, but its nature and health should always be the priority compared to its external appearance. For this reason, all adult dogs must have a health report (HD + eyes) and have passed the obedience + behavior test (recognized character test) at one of the breeding approval tests before they are used in inbreeding.

Waller Beings

The Wäller is a sensitive, enthusiastic working, hard-working sports and herding dog, with a medium to high temperament without nervousness.

Due to his intelligence, he is easy to train and can be trained quickly in various areas of work, such as agility or flyball, since he likes to subordinate himself to his “master” and is able to develop a very close bond with him, provided that he is able to playfully teach him to motivate and do not confuse authority with toughness. It is also very suitable as a family dog. Its child-friendliness is universally praised, of course, dog-friendly children are a prerequisite. He’s a great playmate, but not a toy!

He instinctively guards his family, including children, using his teeth if necessary. The Wäller is basically a bright, playful, funny, friendly, sociable dog with a balanced character. He often reacts cautiously, attentively, and prudently to environmental stimuli and does not break out in panic or hysteria.

In the house and yard, he is a reliable guardian. He can sometimes be a bit reserved towards strangers and prefers to choose his friends himself. However, he must never behave fearfully or maliciously aggressively toward people. The basic requirements include careful rearing and optimal socialization.
